Can I apply if I am under or over the age of the notice?

No, there are no exceptions. You can only register if you are born from 28/10/1992 to 20/2/2008

I am a winner of another contest. Do I have to register for the pre-selection phase?

The winners of first, Second and third prize of the last edition of violin competitions participating in the World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva are admitted directly to the preliminary tests of the Competition in Genoa, upon presentation of the registration form. It is necessary to attach any documentation proving the right to admission without pre-selection.

When will  the pre-selection take place?

Pre-selection will take place at the following dates and locations:

  • Guangzhou, Kayserburg Concert Hall - 25 April 2023
  • New York, Italian Cultural Institute - 8, 9 May 2023
  • Prague, Italian Cultural Institute - 16 May 2023
  • Tokyo, Italian Cultural Institute - 22, 23 May 2023
  • Genoa, Conservatory of Music "Niccolò Paganini" - 29, 30 May 2023
Can I choose where to pre-selection?

Of course, in completing the registration form you can choose 3 options in order of preference.

Depending on the logistical and organizational needs, as well as the geographical distribution of the countries of origin of the candidates. The Secretariat of the Competition reserves the final and binding choice of pre-selection venues and ill communicate by email to the admitted candidates the place, date, and time of its performance.

The Committee reserves the right to modify the procedures for pre-selection which, considering the evolution of the health emergency from COVID-19, may be kept remotely.

Who are the members of the Pre-selection Commission?

The admitted candidates will be evaluated by a Pre-selection Commission appointed and chaired by Nazzareno Carusi, Artistic Director of the "Paganini Prize" and composed by internationally renowned violinists and musicians. The names will be published on this by 28 February 2023 at the latest.

When will I know if I passed the pre-selection?

The list of candidates admitted to the preliminary phase and the alphabetical letter extracted for its conduct will be published on this website by 30 June 2023.

Admitted candidates will receive all the communications at the e-mail address indicated in the registration form.

When will I receive the score of the contemporary piece commissioned by the Competition?

By August 10, 2023, the candidates admitted will receive the score of the piece specially commissioned by the Competition.

When I have to get to Genoa?

It is advisable to arrive in Genoa on 15 October 2023, the day before the rollcall which will be on 16 October at 10 am. Competitors admitted to the eliminatory test will have to be present on the day and the time fixed for the examination, with a valid passport or identity card. The absence, if not motivate by force majeure, will result in exclusion from the competition.

Do I have to book accommodation?

No, from the day before the rollcall, 15 October 2023, as long as they remain in in competition, all competitors will enjoy free hospitality at the accommodation facilities designated by the Competition Secretariat and a daily meal voucher. All competitors will be sent a form for the reservation of accommodation. Travel costs are borne by the competitor.

Will I have to pay for any accompanying persons?

Yes, the costs of hospitality for any escorts, including pianists, will be fully borne by the competitor.

I need a visa, how can I get one?

The admitted competitor and any accompanying pianist who need to obtain a visa to enter Italy, must indicate this on the registration form (FORM/ MOD A). The Competition Secretariat will send an invitation letter. The procedures and the related costs for obtaining the visa will be borne by the competitor and the accompanying person. In any case, the Competition Secretariat is not responsible for not obtaining the visa.

When will the competition rounds take place?

The competition will be held from 17 to 27 October 2023 and will be open to the public.

The preliminary test, at which no more than thirty competitors will be admitted, will take place in Genoa on 17 and 18 October 2023 in the Salone di Rappresentanza of Palazzo Tursi.

No more than twelve competitors will be admitted to the semi-final test, which will take place on 20 and 21 October 2023 at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa.

The final test will be held in two stages at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa: on 25 October 2023 the first with no more than six competitors, on 27 October the second with a number not exceeding three competitors.

Can I be accompanied by my personal pianist?

The Organization will make available to candidates some accompanying pianists, who will be free of charge available to competitors during the competition. Each candidate will be guaranteed a test session before the competition.

The competitors can however to be accompanied by their personal pianist, bearing all the related costs accompanist.

Will I have to provide a page turner if accompanied by my personal pianist?

No, the organization will make available to accompanying pianists a page turner.

Will I be able to interpret some works using a score?

No, the entire program of the Competition must be performed by the contestant by heart, except, where deemed, the two Sonatas provided in the Semifinal test and the piece in the first performance commissioned by the Competition.

When and how will I pay the registration fee?

The registration fee must be paid by 20 February 2023, the deadline for the call, by bank transfer. All information on this page
