1.Was there a specific moment or experience that made you realize you wanted to become a musician?
Yes, it was when I heard Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, 2nd movement with my grandfather on his CD player in his bedroom. The piece was conducted by Riccardo Muti and played by the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999.
2.When you perform, what do you hope to communicate or make the audience feel?
I aim to communicate a balance between staying true to the composer’s intent and bringing my own personal energy to the pieces. I wish that the balance will create a layering of emotions, where the audiences can feel at easy connecting the music with their own personal experiences.
3. If you had to present yourself by playing a single piece from the entire repertoire, which one would you choose, and why?
If I had to pick one piece that best represents me within the entire competition repertoire, it would be the Bach C Major Solo Violin Sonata. Every time I play Bach, his music reminds me of the balance between freedom and discipline that I strive for. I also feel that practicing Bach every day nurtures both my heart and soul, strengthening me with each passing day.
