ULISSE MAZZON

Ulisse Mazzon (San Donà di Piave, 1999) is a violinist and winner of international competitions, including the 2025 “Postacchini.” He has performed as a soloist with many orchestras and in 2020 recorded Mozart’s Concerto K. 207 with Nuova Orchestra Busoni. A student of Brandstätter in Graz and Accardo in Cremona and Siena, he joined the Vienna Philharmonic’s Orchesterakademie at 19 and currently plays with the orchestra. Praised by Kavakos, Repin, Honeck, Midori, and Accardo, he continues his studies with Albena Danailova (MDW Vienna) and Pavel Berman (Perosi, Biella). Active as a chamber musician, he has performed with Giuranna, Accardo, Meneses, and Maria Mafalda and Raimondo Mazzon.

Was there a specific moment or experience that made you realize you wanted to become a musician?

When I was a child, I always listened to classical music thanks to my parents. When I saw a violin concerto on TV, I would imitate the violinist using toys I found at home. The violin has always been my favorite instrument, so it all felt natural.

If you had to present yourself by playing a single piece from the entire repertoire, which one would you choose, and why?

When I play, I try to share with the audience the emotions the music brings out in me. That’s the most beautiful thing about music — a language that connects people through a powerful exchange of emotions.

If you had to present yourself by playing a single piece from the entire repertoire, which one would you choose, and why?

Although it’s not for solo violin, I would choose Mozart’s Requiem as my favorite piece. It’s a masterpiece that, in my view, expresses Mozart’s repentance before God, his fear of death, and his hope for eternal life. Feeling death near, he poured all of this into the music. It’s a work that makes us reflect on life and feel there’s something greater than us.
